Book Review: Locked in Time (Lois Duncan)

Ok. My first thought of the book after the first page…not so spiffy. My thoughts on the book after a couple of chapters in…pretty decent. It seemed to me as though the book had a little trouble getting off of the ground and into the air. I guess that is a common thing, but it’s really cool when you come across a book that takes off right away. The main idea of the book is pretty similar to some other things that I’ve read, but it has enough of a twist to make it really cool.

The book starts out with Nore as the central character and her journey to her father and stepmother’s new house. Since her mother passed away, she decides to go and live with the remainder of her family. Little does she know that her new family would be so…umm…peculiar?.

After a few days in her new home with her new family, she begins to see how oddly everyone is acting. Something foul is afoot and she sets out to uncover what it is. Unfortunately, she is the only one who notices what is going on.

Throughout the book, Nore begins to put all of the pieces together, and in the end finds a way to stop something horrible from happening.

I really enjoyed this book and I would advise you to read it.

Book Review: Midnight for Charlie Bone (Jenny Nimmo)

If you are a Harry Potter fan, chances are that you will highly enjoy the Charlie Bone books. So far there are three out in that series. They are written on a lower level (not too much lower :) ) but are still a highly enjoyable read.

Charlie Bone (obviously the main character) is a school-aged boy who lives with his mother and both of his grandmothers. His father was said to have died in a tragic happening involving a foggy night, a small car, a huge cliff, and a crash. I trust that you can probably put them all together and come to the right conclusion. One of Charlie's grandmothers often mentions a school for the endowed by the name of Bloor's Academy. He doesn't seem to have any special powers--or does he? Charlie doesn't know much about the school, but later on finds out more than he ever wanted to know. Some of the mysterious things at Bloor's include a locked case, a stolen baby, and a mysterious game.

All in all, this entire book is written pretty well. If you read this one and enjoy it, there are two others that are just as good:

Charlie Bone and the Time Twister
Charlie Bone and the Invisible Boy

This book would be a great book to read while waiting for the next Harry Potter book to be written :)

Lois Duncan's Don't Look Behind You Review by Kelsie

April Corrigan is a seventeen year old girl who is very happy living the way she was. She was an excellent tennis player, had a steady boyfriend, and great friends. She was leading a wonderful life until she found out that her father was secretly working for the FBI.

While Mr. Corrigan was attending a trial, someone tried to kill him. That is when her perfect life rapidly fell on its face. She was forced not to play tennis and change her name and location and without letting anyone know who she was or where she was going (even Lorelei her mother’s mother) through the Federal Witness Security Program.

They successfully changed their location, but April lets something slip that totally gives away the family’s secret life. Once the person tracking them down finds out where they are staying, he starts to talk to some of the people who know the Corrigans/Webbers.

I think all of Lois Duncan’s mysteries are great. I also think this book would be loved by almost anyone who reads it.
