Poem: I WANTED TO BE...

by Dontavien M.

 I wanted to be MVP
but she wouldn’t be my coach

I wanted to be the fire
but she wouldn’t let me burn.

I wanted to be the Big Kahuna
and surf the biggest wave
but she wouldn’t be the wind
to make the ocean shake.

I wanted to learn everything
but she wouldn’t be my teacher.

I wanted to be a rock star
but she refused to be my band.

I wanted to be a gardner
tending to the best flowers
but she refused to be my
bulb blossoming into a rose.

I wanted to be her man
always loving and supporting
but she wouldn’t settle down
so I have to move on.
